Bradford Championship Show always starts the new year off in the cavy calendar.
As it is a two-day show, most fanciers make it into a long weekend in the company of good friends. Fanciers group together in hotels, where they socialise, have a nice drink and a good meal.
Bradford Championship Show is one of the "Classics" in the fancy, not to be missed by any serious rabbit or cavy fancier.
THE SELF JUDGES WERE:
Steve Davies - Adults
Peter Gammie - U/5
Mark Rubery - 5/8
There were around 250 Selfs, from which BIS judge, Pauline Avery, picked Palemoon Stud's Adult PE White sow as her best.

Best in Show @ Bradford Championship Show 2009:

A beaming Margaret Tenner -alias 'Palemoon Stud' on her 3rd.BIS win at Bradford.
BUT, OF COURSE, THERE WERE SOME CHOCOLATES ENTERED AT THE SHOW AS WELL.
'Team Helvetia' consisted of 3 pigs this time.
An Adult - a 5/8 - an U/5
This was done on purpose, as I intend not to show at too many shows during 2009. I shall have a bit of a "sabbatical" this year!
Of course, I shall support every single ESCC show, and hope, that my precious Chocolates will continue to do me proud, throughout this year.
'Maxey' continued her winning streak under the very reliable judge: Steve Davies, by winning the Adult Chocolate class as well as the AOC Challenge.
I was overly proud that she managed to win back the "Rhona Adlard trophy" for Best Chocolate in Show. It feels good to have the trophy back after a few years.
'Maxey'
MAXEY with 'her' "RHONA ADLARD" trophy and the special ESCC rosette.
The judges' comments were as follows:'
First of all BIS judge, Pauline Avery -judging "Best Chocolate" for the Rhona Adlard trophy:
"A really outstanding pig -Evelyne van Vliet's superb Self Chocolate"
and
Steve Davies: "big and fit sow, excels coat and preparation, very good colour, shape, shoulder, muzzle, type, eye and ear, still a stunning pig. Not duplicated, which was a shame as she would have challenged extremely hard".
Unfortunately, the 5/8 and U/5 could not quite match Maxey's result, as both came 3rd. in their classes.
TO FINISH OFF -SOME SCENES FROM AROUND THE SHOW
SOUTHWESTERN CHAMPIONSHIP SHOW - 27. June 2009
So here we are again, 5 months after showing at Bradford, I entered 1 Chocolate Adult sow 'Pepsi' at Wyevern Cavy Club's SOUTHWEST CHAMPIONSHIP SHOW. I judged the English Self Cavy Club's Intermediate Stock Show and entered Pepsi in the ESCC Adult Supporting classes under Peter Gammie as well as in the SW Championship Show under Amy Heale.
I was delighted to see at the end of the show that Pepsi had won under both judges in a breed class of 6 Chocolates. She then went on to win the AOC challenge and finished 3rd. behind BIS and Runner-Up in the ESCC Supporting classes.
The South West Championship Show had special rosettes made for all Best of Breed winners: on the tails was the name of the breed and in the centre was a photo of that breed. Winning that rosette was very special as the centre bears a photo of Maxey; so Pepsi "kept it in the family" -winning the rosette that has a photo of her sister in the centre!

NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP SHOW - 18. July 2009
Encouraged by the good results at the South Western Champiosnhip Show, I decided to enter two Adult Chocolates at the national Chmapionship show. Of course, 'Pepsi' went as well as 'Minerva', who entered the Adult class for the first time.
Tony Jagger judged the Adult Selfs on the National side and Bernard Wiles in the ESCC Midlands Area show.

Pepsi won her class under Tony Jagger, as well as under Bernard Wiles, thus making her a champion.
Minerva was second to her on both sides and followed Pepsi all the way through the challenges.
So, the going is still good -therefore, I am really pushing the boat out by entering 3 Adult Chocolates at the
BETLEY HORTICULTURAL SHOW - 1. August 2009
... and she did it again -she held her own in a very good quality class of 9 and went on to win her 6th. straight breed class win as well as her 6th. AOC challenge win.
'Pepsi' will have a well earned rest now until LONDON CHAMPIONSHIP SHOW, where we hope she will be, once again, in top form.
LONDON CHAMPIONSHIP SHOW - 12. September 2009
The "London" hosted the ESCC Young Stock Show again, so a Helvetia entry was imperative. After having mixed breeding results, I was only able to enter 1 U/5 month boar and sow; 1 5/8 sow and 1Adult sow and an Adult boar. Bearing in mind that my grooming was not its usual good quality, "Team Helvetia" did ok!
Best 5/8 was awarded by Diane Nunn to this sow, who shall be nameless, as I don't know who she is.
Tony O'Neill put my U/5 sow second in the ESCC classes.
'Pepsi' won under Amy Heale in the London classes.
'Tendulkar' won under Mark Rubery in the ESCC classes.
CORNWALL CHAMPIONSHIP SHOW 10. October 2009
The Cornish Championship Show hailed a great success for Helvetia's Self Chocolates:
'Minerva' managed to win Best Self and runner up to Best in Show in the Cornish Championship Show under judge David Oulton and she also won Best Self and third Best in Show in the Southern Cavy Club's SW Area Show under judge Diane Nunn.
'Tendulkar' won a second prize in the Adult Chocolate class and also in the Beige/Chocolate/Red/Lilac challenge under David Oulton, whilst 'Sulis' won a second prize in the Adult Chocolate class as well as the AOC challenge class under Diane Nunn.
It was a long journey to Cornwall, but in retrospect one that was well worth the effort!
