CHOCOLATES - SHOW RESULTS 2008
CHOCOLATES - SHOW RESULTS 2008
2008 got off to a very good start with the Chocolates doing well at Bradford Championship Show that was held at Harrogate at the end of January.

I put two or three pigs out at Sandbach in April and Devon County in May.

The next big show, I entered, was the ESCC Intermediate Stock Show at Wyevern at the end of June.
The wins were again very impressive
1st. and 2nd. in the Adult class;
1st. in the 5/8 class;
3rd. in the U/5 class.
The National Championship Show followed in
July where my Chocolates won all three classes.

The Southern Cavy Club's Combined Stock Show took place in August where the Adults grabbed 1st. and 2nd. again, the 5/8 got 2nd. and the U/5 3rd.

LONDON CHAMPIONSHIP SHOW - 6th. SEPTEMBER
So, London Championship has been and gone and "Team Helvetia" did really well. Out of the 9 entered 8 came home with cards and rosettes.
The "moment supreme" was undoubtedly 'Maxey' gaining her championship in just 10 weeks-my thanks to Mark, David, Peter and Jackie who judged her and thought so highly of her. 'Maxey' won the Adult Chocolate class as well as the AOC challenge on both the London side and the ESCC side. Sister 'Pepsi' was second to her all the way.
The U/5 Chocolate sows being judged, with 2 of Helvetia's girls on the top table.
'Minerva' on the left and 'Hayho' on the right.
Steve Davies judging Helvetia's U/5 Chocolates
New kid on the block 'Sulis' (Minerva's sister) won the U/5 Chocolate sow class as well as the AOC challenge on both sides. 'Minerva was second and another newcomer 'Hayho' at just 3.5 months old was third in that class.
To keep it in the family, 'Solinus' -'Minerva' and 'Sulis' brother won the U/5 Chocolate boar class and 2 of 'Kumble's sons were second and third.

Steve Davies - "fit, excels coat and preparation, good colour, shape, head, eye and ear. A super and very promising sow, which easily went Best AOC and 4th. BIS behind the Blacks -well done!"

            THE ESCC WINNERS:
'PEPSI'   -   'MINERVA'   -   'KASTANI'.
Not leaving myself very much time to prepare 9 cavies to ultimate show status for the Cornish Championship Show (I had 1 day -coming home from Lisbon at 00.30hrs. on Wednesday morning), I set about grooming, bathing and doing everything else that's necessary to make a self look really good =all in one day!!

I set off Thursday lunchtime for the fairly long ride to Cornwall, with the aim to have some quality time down there apart from showing the cavies.

The Chocolates did me very proud. I had entered 2 Adults -Maxey and Pepsi; 2 5/8 months (Minerva and Sulis) and 2 U/5 months -Hayho and Kastani.

A brilliant result and 30 more points towards the ESCC 2008 Chocolate Points Competition.
Helvetia's Chocolates are now leading this competition with 146 points.
In 2nd. place is Norman Field with 74 points and in 3rd. place is Martin Pearse with 48 points.
Helvetia also leads the AOC (B/L/Choc/R) competition with 13 points.
In second place are Martin Pearse and Smith & Cinderby with 6 points and in 3rd. place is Norman Field with 5 points.
The day after the show, I indulged in my "second hobby" -'distance walking' .
I walked from Zennor to St. Ives on the SW Coastal path. The sun was out and it altered all the colours:
                                        ........INFINITE BEAUTY!!!........
I will do 1 or 2 more shows, my so-called "fun shows" before the beginning of December. Fun shows are those that I attend with a few cavies with nothing major at stake. I just go to have a great day amongst friends.
The first "fun show" I attended was Wyevern Cavy Club's show on 25. October, where I entered 2 black Dutch -1 Adult boar and 1 U/5 sow   (see Dutch Show results, when I get round to updating it).

and

'Sulis' in the 5/8 Chocolate class: she did very well again, winning:
- her breed class;   then Best Chocolate in Show and finally 3rd. Best
  Self.
For more info about this club:
www. wyeverncavyclub.piczo.com
Sulis 3rd. in the Best Self line-up, behind:
1st.   DE Golden Adult sow -   Rex Matthews and
2nd.   Black Adult sow           - Julia Barr
The next outing will be to Welland Valley Cavy Club's show on
8. November.
This is an ESCC Points Show, so -hopefully the 3 Adults Chocolate sows, that have been entered, will hold their own at this show.
Well, this turned out to be a bit of a "damp squib".
Maxey was beaten into 2nd. place in the breed class by a very mediocre Chocolate sow.
***Some you lose and some you win***.
New recruit, "Nargis", on her first outing as an Adult (in preparation for a possible show career next year), came third in that class, edging out "Pepsi".

Thanks to all three judges, who thought so highly of these pigs.

The pigs amassed an amazing 36 Chocolate points at this show, bringing the total up to 188 over 2008.

They also earned me another 3 AOC points -so currently we are leading with 16 points with those in second place on 7 points.

Maxey and Pepsi also did very well on the Loughborough side, winning 1st. and 2nd. as well.
And... then, very unexpectedly, I went to another "fun show"
to Fareham Cavy Club on 13. December with Ian Cinderby judging.

I took Maxey, Kumble, Sulis and Tiguan along, ..... as they were already pretty well prepared from the week before.

SO, WE COME TO THE END OF THE YEAR 2008

This also means the end of another year of English Self Cavy Club Points Competitions:

*** The ESCC SUPREME POINTS COMPETITION, which runs over 3 years -in this case over 2006 - 2007 - 2008, came to its conclusion and the final standings were as follows:

1st. / winner of the gold star: Evelyne van Vliet   with   224 points
2nd. / runner-up winning the silver star: Norman Field with 108 points
3rd. / Martin Pearse with 105 points.

Regretfully, this Supreme Points Competition is the last one the ESCC
has ever run. From 2009 onwards, there will only be the
annual ESCC Points Competitions.

*** The ANNUAL POINTS COMPETITION, just over 2008.
